After an intense first round of competition at the Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals August 3rd, the field has been narrowed and 16 dachshunds will advance to the San Diego regional final set for September 1st at the Del Mar Race Track. In all, more than 300 dogs took part in the 18th annual event that was held on the rugby fields at Qualcomm Stadium and serves as a fund-raiser for the non-profit Holiday Bowl.
It was a local standout, Meeko of San Diego, who recorded the fastest time of the day, covering the 53-foot grass track in a time of 2.44 seconds. Truffle, who made the trip down from Costa Mesa, was next at 2.56 seconds. Rounding out the top five fastest dachshunds were Reggie Racer at 2.60 seconds (Corona, Calif.), Presley (Placentia, Calif.), and Alvin (San Diego), who were both clocked at 2.63 seconds.
