SAN DIEGO – In conjunction with the Port of San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade presented by U.S. Bank, the winner of the Southwest Airlines Float Design Contest was announced at an all-school surprise assembly Thursday morning, parade officials announced. The Southwest Airlines Float Design Contest was open to San Diego school kids grade K-5 with the theme: If I could fly anywhere in the United States, I’d go to ….
Kyndall Krebs, a fourth grader at Phoenix Charter School, was chosen as the winner. Krebs designed a conceptual float for the contest choosing the destination of San Francisco. Her winning float is being designed and built and will be featured in the Port of San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade presented by U.S. Bank on December 26, 2014.
For her winning design, Krebs and her family will receive four tickets to the National University Holiday Bowl, a Family 4-Pack to the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl and will ride on her float in the Port of San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade presented by U.S. Bank December 26th. Also, her classmates will receive two tickets each in the grandstands at the parade.
The parade this year will step off at 3:00 p.m., Friday, Dec. 26. Traditionally held on the day of the National University Holiday Bowl, it is being held a day prior to accommodate cruise ship traffic in the downtown San Diego area. Parade viewing is free. The National University Holiday Bowl is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 27 with a 5:00 p.m. kickoff.
