SAN DIEGO – The winner of the Southwest Airlines Float Design Contest was announced at a surprise all-school assembly Tuesday afternoon. The winner was presented with a grand prize and the news that his drawing will be created into a float for the December 30th Port of San Diego Holiday Bowl Parade presented by U.S. Bank.  The Southwest Airlines Float Design Contest was open to San Diego school kids grades K-5. The theme for the art contest was: If I could fly anywhere in the United States, I’d go to ….

Owen Ferber, a fifth grader at Kelly Elementary School in Carlsbad, was selected as the winner. Ferber’s drawing combined many elements of his selected destination of Boston into one creative design.

For his winning design, Ferber and his family will receive five tickets to the Holiday Bowl, five tickets to the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl and they will ride on his float in the bowl game parade. Ferber’s entire fifth grade class also received two tickets each to sit in the television area grandstands at the parade.

The 25th annual parade will step off at 10 am on Wednesday, December 30th. Street-side parade viewing is free. Grandstand tickets are still available for purchase at www.sandiegobowlgames.com or by calling 619-283-5808.
