SAN DIEGO – In conjunction with Southwest Airlines, the National University Holiday Bowl awarded a local San Diego High School student a $10,000 scholarship award, officials announced today. Annelise Morgan, a senior at Mt. Carmel High School, was the recipient of the award this year.

The Southwest Airlines scholarship, awarded by the National University Holiday Bowl, is presented annually to a high school senior from San Diego County who has excelled academically and within his/her community inside and outside of the classroom. Citizenship and leadership in extracurricular activities are particularly important criteria for the award.

Morgan, a four-year varsity athlete in basketball and an all-around gymnast, is the president of the National Honor Society and has earned a 4.37 cumulative GPA. She plans to apply to Georgetown University, Princeton University and UCLA, among many others, and would like to study economics, health administration, public policy or finance.

For her award, Morgan will be honored at the Navy and Marine Corps Luncheon aboard the USS Essex Dec. 26 and also recognized on the field during the game on Dec. 27th.

The 37th annual National University Holiday Bowl kicks off 5:00 p.m. PST December 27th and features a matchup between the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the University of Southern California Trojans. Tickets are still available for purchase at www.SanDiegoBowGames.com or by calling 619-285-5039.
