The Holiday Bowl donated goods from Saturday’s Give the Gear presented by U.S. Bank
SAN DIEGO – This morning, representatives from the Holiday Bowl unloaded a moving truck full of sports equipment including golf clubs, tennis racquets, surfboards, baseballs and much more at the Toby Wells YMCA. This past Saturday, the San Diego community donated their new or gently used sports equipment at Qualcomm Stadium for the Holiday Bowl’s inaugural sporting goods drive Give the Gear presented by U.S. Bank. As a thank you for their donation, each car that drove through received two free Holiday Bowl tickets, compliments of U.S. Bank.
The inaugural event saw great success collecting golf club sets, baseball bats, baseballs and softballs, tennis racquets, boogie boards, golf balls and dozens of soccer balls, volleyballs and basketballs. In addition to the used sporting goods, Wilson Football donated 150 brand new footballs for the event. All of the gear collected was unloaded this morning at the Toby Wells YMCA and will be distributed to YMCAs around the county and the underprivileged schools they serve. The sporting goods donated will equip local youth with the gear they need to lead active, healthy lifestyles.
“We are incredibly proud to bring Give the Gear to San Diego. The sporting goods drive will have a direct impact on our local youth, encourage an active lifestyle and promote a passion for sports,” said Ted Tollner, President of the 2016 Holiday Bowl. “For 38 years now, the mission of the nonprofit Holiday Bowl has been to boost the San Diego economy and enrich the community by producing one of the nation’s top bowl games and festival of events. Thanks to our partner, U.S. Bank, we can share the bowl experience with our community and come together to support local YMCAs and underprivileged youth.”
“At U.S. Bank, we invest our time, resources and passion to build and support vibrant communities that allow every person to work toward their possible,” said U.S. Bank San Diego Market President, Steve Stuckey. “Our corporate giving and volunteer program is called Community Possible and focuses on the areas of work, home and play. Supporting the Give the Gear program represents our play focus and we are proud to be part of making this community connected through culture, recreation and play.”
This event is produced by the nonprofit San Diego Bowl Game Association, the 501(c)(3) organization which produces the Holiday Bowl and San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl and whose mission is to generate tourism, exposure, economic benefit and civic pride for San Diego and its citizens by producing the nation’s most exciting college football bowl games and festivals of events.
The 2016 Holiday Bowl takes place December 27 at 4 pm (PST) at Qualcomm Stadium and features top teams from the Big Ten and Pac-12 conferences.
Event partners include: U.S. Bank, Wilson Sporting Goods, San Diego Family Magazine and Z90.3.
