SAN DIEGO – The horses weren’t the only animals racing at the Del Mar Race Track this weekend! The top sixteen dachshunds from the qualifying round of the Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals held at Qualcomm Stadium on October 3rd took to the track Sunday for the semi-finals. Heats of eight dashing dachshunds raced in between the horse races during Bing Crosby Season at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club. The wiener dogs captivated the spectators, with the crowd cheering and chanting for their favorite doxie.

The top dog of the day was Presley, a ten-year old dachshund from Placentia, CA. She edged out her canine competitors for the title of Del Mar Champion. The top eight finishers from Sunday’s semi-final qualified for the championship round of the Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals, set for December 30th at 9:30 am, prior to the start of the Port of San Diego Holiday Bowl Parade.

The Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals, now in its 19th season, serves as a fundraiser for the nonprofit Holiday Bowl.
